This shot Gun has been restored and the damascus Barrels and receiver cerakoated by proffesional Gun Smith. History on this Shot Gun Lefever Arms Co. was in Syracuse, New York, until Ithaca Gun Co., through a shell corporation, bought them out in early 1916 and moved the machinery and inventory to Ithaca, NY, where they continued to finish up and sell "real" Lefever doubles until about 1919. Then in 1921, Ithaca introduced their lower priced line of Lefever guns, beginning with the Lefever Nitro Special double or Model 1. Dating a Lefever Arms Co. double by the serial number is very iffy. There are guns with serial numbers clear down in the 38000 range that were finished up and sold with an Ithaca address. The H-Grade was introduced about 1898. Uncle Dan left Lefever Arms Co. about 1901 and formed D.M. Lefever & Sons in Syracuse, New York, to make a boxlock and/or triggerplate action double of his design. By late 1902 the company name changed to D.M. Lefever Sons & Co., still in Syracuse. By late 1903 they left New York, and were set up and operating in Defiance, Ohio, still as D.M. Lefever Sons & Co. By mid-1905, the company name was changed to D.M. Lefever Co. and by September 1905 they were in Bowling Green, Ohio. Danial M. Lefever died Oct. 29, 1906, and the last magazine ads I find for D.M. Lefever Co. were in April 1907. Son Frank Lefever went to Moundsville, West Virginia, and became plant superintendant of the Three-Barrel Gun Co. He took the parts for the D.M. Lefever single barrel with him, and continued to manufacture them as Three-Barrel Gun Co. and later Royal Gun Co. single barrel trap guns. Son Charles Lefever was briefly involved in Waverly Arms Co. attempting to continue to build/finish up D.M. Lefever guns, then went to Toledo, Ohio, and was involved in the Union Fire Arms Co In great condition for its age (120 years old) and still in working order.
