The Smith & Wesson Model 686 is one of the most famous, robust, and revered .357 Magnum double-action revolvers ever made. Introduced in 1980, it was specifically engineered on S&W's medium-large L-Frame to handle a continuous diet of full-power, heavy .357 Magnum loads without the frame-stretching or cracking issues that sometimes plagued the lighter, older K-Frame models (like the Model 19).
