Winchester .22 LR Rifle

New in box, just 3,950 made in 1978! Offered for sale is this very rare Winchester ‘Cherokee Carbine’ Commemorative Model 9422 XTR rifle in new condition, still in the original box. Winchester Commemoratives were first introduced in 1964 & each Commemorative was issued as a reproduction of a historically famous gun model or to honor a historically significant person, group, event or institution relating to U.S. or Canadian history. Commemoratives are generally of very excellent quality & are often embellished with fancy stocks & metal finishes such as silver, nickel or gold plating. Manufactured to be instant collectibles, they are pleasing to the eye. The Cherokee ‘Trail of Tears’ commemoratives were introduced in 1978 & just 3,950 were actually made in .22LR! This example is in mint, unused condition as can be seen in the photos & unusually, comes complete with the original box! What appears in the close up photos to be fine scratches is misleading, as these are not visible to the eye when holding the rifle. It is the high quality digital SLR camera we use that makes these far more prominent than they actually are. These were sold for $384 in 1978 which converts to almost USD$2,000 today! This is a rare find for the Winchester collector, especially a collector who values rimfire commemoratives as most Winchester Commemoratives were made in 30-30 with a lesser number being 44-40 but very few in .22LR!
